At Christ the Saviour Antiochian Orthodox Church, we believe that our children are the future of the church. Our Sunday school program provides age appropriate activities that are based on the church teachings. Our enthusiastic team of teachers strives to provide the children with different opportunities to learn about the Orthodox faith and about our lives as Christians in a fun and engaging way.
Registration Sunday School is one of the ministries that are aimed to serve our children. Children ages 4-12 years are welcome to join (13 and up can join the Junior SOYO group). Sunday school starts on September 13th, 2015 and ends on June 12th, 2016.
Registration for the school year 2015- 2016 will be open on Sunday, August 30, and on Sunday,September 6th, 2015. Please fill in the Registration Form, as well as the Media Consent, by following the link below. Please hand these forms to any of the Sunday school teachers.
Curriculum We follow a modified curriculum based on the Orthodox Christian Education Commission guidelines and the Antiochian Orthodox Department of Christian Education.
Theme Our Theme for 2015-2016 is “Knowing Your Faith”.
Throughout the year, we will be learning the foundations of the Orthodox Faith. We will be focusing on stories from the Holy Bible. We are looking forward to participate as a body of Christ in the Holy Sacraments (e.g., Holy Communion, Divine Liturgy, Confession, Holy Unction) and celebrate the feast days with our church family.
Character building will be part of our focus for this year. Through lessons, group activities, scenarios and discussions, we will learn about the following “Fruits of The Spirit”: forbearance, kindness, faithfulness and self-control.
God calls us to faith, to learn from him and to lead by example.
Sunday School Schedule Classes run from right after Communion until the end of the Divine Liturgy. Please make every effort to bring your children to church and Sunday School on a regular basis. Nothing discourages learning as much as inconsistent attendance.
Looking Forward We will be participating in many fun activities throughout the year. These activities will include seasonal outdoor excursions to celebrate the Harvest Season, winter, Easter, etc. We are hoping that many of our kids will be in attendance and join the fun.
Our teachers are looking forward to participating in a workshop designed for Sunday School teachers in order to grow spiritually and provide our children with appropriate Christian education.
